Ride the Bailong Elevator on holiday in China with Wendy Wu Tours
Nestled among the over 3,000 quartzite sandstone pillars of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wulingyuan area of Zhangjiajie, the Bailong Elevator (or Hundred Dragons Heaven Elevator, locally) is the world’s tallest and fastest outdoor elevator.
Built into the quartz sandstone cliff, the double deck, glass fronted car will carry you the 326 metres to the summit in just one minute and 32 seconds. The views are incredible all the way up, as you are whisked from the valley floor through enigmatic mists, the panorama of a whole forest of thousands of pillars, each crowned with lush greenery, unfolding as you get higher and higher. At the top you’ll find the perfect (and still!) vantage point to stand and soak in those views, as well as access to scenic trails and hiking routes that will take you deeper into this astounding nature.
