I just finished a Wendy Wu tour (“A China Experience,” April 29 to May 6), hosted by national escort Jay Chen. My experience was beyond first-rate, due in large part to Mr. Chen. I wanted to write to you to bring this highly effective young man to your attention.
As a U.S. diplomat, I once visited and studied, in depth, the practices of large, blue-chip corporations such as 3M, IBM, Citibank, Hughes, and many others across the United States, to identify and prepare their truly promising junior employees for eventual senior leadership positions in their organizations. He goes beyond any standard requirements for a tour guide. He knows how to anticipate problems and work out solutions before they occur. He is a leader who knows how get other people to take the extra steps that smooth the movement of tour groups. He is flexible and adapts to changing solutions. He has total command of, and dedication to, his job, and uses that job knowledge to conduct the tour in such a way that his customers may not even realize what he has done or how effective he is. But several others in our tour group, from a variety of countries and backgrounds, also were very well aware of Mr. Chen’s performance, and would concur with the assessment here.

We just finished our tour with your company (October 30-November 7) and wish to tell you how much we enjoyed the experience. Our tour guide Manny was excellent and really brought China to life with his wealth of knowledge, wit and smile. The local guides were very good also and provided us alot of information. The tour was well organized, the hotels wonderful and the food good. We liked the days filled with lots of activity yet still gave us time to relax and of course shop.
We will definitely suggest to our friends to consider using your company when planning a future visit to China.

I have just returned from your Majestic Yangtze tour and I would like to say a big thank you to you guys for a fantastic time. The tour was busy as there was a lot packed in but worth every tired foot.
Our National Guide ‘Leo’ was always helpful and really he really helped to pull the group together. His knowledge of China was impressive and he steered us away from many ‘situations’. He was always available if we needed him and couldn’t do enough to help us all. If this guy is typical of the standard of your guides I certainly will return.

My husband, Keith and I recently took a Wendy Wu Tour to China, which was sponsored by the South Bend Teachers’ Credit Union. Our tour was from October 29 to November 7, 2011. We arrived in Shanghai, flew to Xian, then on to Beijing. Our tour guide from the time we landed in Shanghai until the time we flew from Beijing, was Emmanuel Tian. I am writing this email as an evaluation of the tour, and especially regarding Emmanuel.
This trip was our first out of the country of the United States, and needless to say we were a little nervous. Emmanuel put us, as well as everyone on the tour, completely at ease immediately. We felt comfortable, safe, and in excellent hands from the first time he talked to us. Emmanuel was extremely knowledgeable on every subject that was discussed, and he actually took the time to teach us about the Chinese culture. He was extremely personable and was at our “beckoned-call,”every step of the way.
The tour was extremely organized and well planned. We were ALWAYS able to walk into any establishment, with Emmanuel, without waiting, and were made to feel very welcomed. Emmanuel was patient, friendly, and very helpful at ALL times. We would highly recommend Wendy Wu Tours to anyone who is interested in traveling, and we especially would recommend Emmanuel Tian to any tour group, who wanted to have a perfect vacation in China. We have returned home after a very long drive from Chicago to New York due to the hurricane.
It was a bad ending to a wonderful trip. I have been on many trips by ourselves and with groups, but this one will stand out for the outstanding job you did in arranging and implementing all the plans.
Firstly every guide and van was waiting exactly when and where they were supposed to be. Every guide was terrific - they were smart young people and each gave us a different perspective which was great. They went beyond what they needed to do to accommodate us, for example, driving us to the kosher restaurant even though it was out of the way. I cannot say enough about how terrific they were especially Maggie, Frank, Melody and Alan in Hong Kong. They made our trip very special.
Your offices in NY and China and local were fantastic, even when we made a last minute change.
You have a very professional and special staff of which you can be proud.

My wife Ana and I just returned from the tour Magnificent China provided by Wendy Wu. Let me tell you this company is outstanding. There is nothing that I can point wrong on any part of the tour. The national escort that we had was out of this world. He was oriented to detail and took care of any trivial request that we had. He called our group "Stone Family". We were his family for 21 days and nights.I am letting you know if any one ask for reference regarding Wendy Wu give them my e-mail. If any one goes to China let them know to ask for Stone as the national escort and use Wendy Wu as the travel company. I found other Americans traveling in China and they had nothing but complains on their tour. I recomend Wendy Wu if you want to see China as close as possible. My wife hold the panda. It was the high point of the tour for her. I love the whole tour. It was a Magnificent experience.

Although I never write reviews, I thought it was important for me to write to tell you how wonderful your Beijing Tour Guide, Jason Chan, was for our Private Tour.
I traveled with 3 others: my fiance Dallas, my business partner Gary and his wife Brenda. As different as our ages are, ranging from 27 to 69 years of age, our overall state of physical fitness is as varied as well. Gary, for instance, also suffers from occasional back pain due to a recent biking accident. I mention this because I am aware that it is often difficult to please such a diverse group.
Gary and Brenda finished a 2 week river boat tour of China when we met them in Beijing. I was worried that they would be tired and bored after such a long trip. Jason was able to alleviate my concerns quickly with his enthusiasm. Obviously, he was very knowledgeable with information about our destinations of the day, but made him truly impressive was his thoughtfulness for others and his warm personality. He was extremely accommodating to all of us, offering refreshments, frequent rest stops and especially for Gary, a simple helping hand when needed. His personality was very engaging, he had a great sense of humor and was able to relate many of our questions about the culture to his own family and experiences. This made the experience more personal and easier to relate to our own lives. Simply, he made our Beijing experience wonderful!
I would encourage you to share this email on all websites and links so that others may have an opportunity to enjoy both Jason and Beijing as much as we have. Although biased, I truly believe you should also examine Jason for a potential leadership position in the future for Wendy Wu Tours. His gift of knowledge, caring and an engaging personality is rare.

Thank you, first day back in the office yesterday was definitely crazy catching up on all the emails.
We both thoroughly enjoyed the trip and would definitely recommend your services and those of Wendy Wu. Everything in the plan worked out and the scheduling of the tourist attractions was spot on. We have great memories from each day of the holiday and loads of photos as well. I am trying to sort through the photos, there are just so many.
The tour guides were very good. Maggie in Beijing set a very high standard, we bonded with her straight away and were very pleased with the time she spent with us. The same goes for Troy in Shanghai. The both of them gave us a great perspective of Chinese culture as well the tourist attractions.
The Hotels were top class and the services within the hotels. I am glad we went with 5 star just because it gave us a good place to recover after a busy day.
Thank you so much for arranging every meticulous detail and even working with us while we were in Nanjing.

Following our return from our exciting tour of China we felt we should write to share a few highlights with you. Everything went like clockwork from start to finish, despite the best efforts of British Airways cabin crew to disrupt things. There was so much to see and clearly we needed the support of top quality local and national guides to make sure it all knitted together. We certainly got it at every port of call, Gu in Shanghai, Herbert on the Cruise, Coco in Chengdu and Annie in Beijing were tremendous. Please pass on our thanks to them, and to the support staff of drivers. Above all huge thanks must go to your top class National Guide in Kathy Wang. This lady is extra, extra special in all she does. Annie told us all about the four national treasures of China. We must say that Kathy Wang has to be the fifth and probably outshone the first four in many ways. Her knowledge of her beloved China allied to her willingness to help and supports were outstanding. Overall you can be assured that we will happily recommend Wendy Wu tours to others.

I feel I must write and tell you what a wonderful holiday we have just had with your tour company. Thanks must go to many local guides from Jason in Beijing to Julian in Shanghai but most of all to our National Escort Landy Cui who met us at Beijing airport with a warm and genuine smile and then waved us goodbye at Shanghai airport with the same smile. Landy was a real pleasure to have as our guide throughout our tour as she was so knowledgeable, helpful and her English was excellent. She was very proud to show us and tell us about the different parts and cultures of her country, which is so fascinating, exciting, and beautiful. We now have hundreds of photos and many, many minutes of video to remind us of wonderful people and places such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, Xian with the Terracotta Army, The beautiful and cuddly Panda's, the majestic Yangtze river, the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of Li River and Guilin and so much more. Dear Wendy Wu Tours, I am writing to thank you for yet another wonderful holiday. As on my two previous Wendy Wu tours I was most impressed by the streamlined delivery – the holiday itself was excellent and included many varied activities. A highlight was the wonderful boat trip on Halong Bay. The boat was spacious and not crowded, the food and accommodation excellent. As the lone British Traveller on this tour, I was somewhat worried about the 36 hours in Bangkok. However, I need not have worried – I was looked after most royally by the ‘Destination Asia’ guide, Tony, who was outstanding. He saw me settled in the hotel and then took me to a bank, a supermarket and the train station. He also called in the hotel later that day to see that all was well. I booked two trips with him – an evening at a wonderful show at the Siam Niramit theatre and a trip to the Royal Palace. I would heartily recommend both these activities. The show rivalled the wondrous show on the lake at Guilin which was choreographed by the gentleman who organised the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. I cannot praise it too highly. Thank you once again for a fantastic holiday, looking forward to another.

Firstly I would like to say that we had an absolutely fabulous and unforgettable experience. The whole trip was extremely well organised and everything ran very smoothly. China is a wonderful country and we were able to experience many of its amazing sights. All the local guides were friendly, helpful and informative. I was particularly impressed by the way that travel was organised - coaches were always ready and waiting (again with friendly and helpful drivers) and guides always ready to whisk us off to the next adventure.
One person that really contributed to our enjoyment of the trip was our national guide Emmanuel (Tian Chao) who was so genuinely friendly, nothing was too much trouble for him. Even when he was caring for a sick group member, he still managed to look after everybody else, organising food when our plane was delayed due to poor weather and generally making sure everyone was happy. He helped our group to bond and we have all made some lasting friendships thanks to him. He really is a credit to Wendy Wu and is a true ambassador to his country!
We were pleased with all the hotels that we stayed in. However, one disappointed was that we often had a twin room rather than a double. All of our meals were delicious! Tables and staff were always ready for us and we were able to sample many different dishes.
We were very happy with the itinerary. I appreciate that much thought has gone into organising excursions so that visitors can see as much as possible. However, I would have liked to spend more time at the Great Wall (even if it meant missing something else). I would have liked to have spent half a day at the wall, maybe travelling further from the city to see a different part. For many of our group this was the main attraction of China and it would have been nice to see more.
We would be grateful if you could pass on our thanks to all the staff involved with our trip, but particularly Emmanuel. We have no hesitation in recommending Wendy Wu to others and hope to be booking another holiday with you in the future.

We returned from China on the 19th May 2008 after a wonderful holiday. I am writing to let you know how well our Tour Captain Zoe and our local guide Judith coped when we were in the devastating earthquake. Judith managed to find us food when there was nowhere open and Zoe made us all feel safe and secure. I am sure that these two young girls would be extremely worried about their own families and also frightened themselves but they always put our needs first.
